“Shopping is as much of an ethical choice as any car is environmentally friendly. It just can’t be. There’s no such thing as ethical consumption under capitalism. But, if you want to reduce the harm that’s done by your shopping choices, the best thing that you can do is get as close to the source as you can, and there’s not much closer you can get than your local cooperative. ... If it’s feasible for you to join a CSA or purchase from farmers directly, that’s fantastic. I don’t think I’m alone in saying that we encourage that here at the cooperative, but we also understand - you know, it’s the reason that we exist - people like convenience. So when you come to the co-op, you’ll know when something is local. When a bag of salad mix is from Blue Moon Farm, you’ll know it’s from them, you’ll know it’s from 10 miles down the road, and if you wanna meet the farmers, you can. Here at the co-op, right now I think our biggest priority is connecting our producers and farmers with our owners and customers, and that right now I think is the best thing we can do in our current circumstance.”
