“A whole new world has opened up to me here. I grew up in a farming community but I had no idea all my food was coming from factory farms. I was just growing up in the middle of a cornfield in Indiana thinking that the corn that I bought at Kroger was the corn that was grown in my backyard. It wasn’t until I got older that I realized that wasn’t the case. Coming here I was shown the state our food system is in. If you want to make a positive impact on the world you have to start small, start local. This place is really incredible because it’s a self-sustaining thing entirely. The food comes locally, it’s sold locally, it’s sold to local people, the store is staffed by local people, we’re raising money for all these local organizations. The whole mission of the co-op is important and very appealing to me because it is making a difference.”
